Trip #1
Book with Colonia Express for 60$ US round trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia with the ferry.
Itinerary : Buenos Aires - Colonia by ferry (1hour 1/2)
Stay in Colonia for a night Colonia - Montevideo by bus (3hours)
Stay two days
Montevideo - Punta del Este (3 hours)
6:00: Ouuuups I still have to pack some stuff: bikini, hat, sandals, sunscream, yes o yes please ! 8:00: Let's go to Puerto Madero to catch the ferry; we made it on time ! 9:15: Arrival at Colonia, Uruguay after a little nap in the boat.
The air is warmer, the wind smells like the sea and the pins remind me of my childhood.
We begin our walk to the Hostel & Suite Rio, Rivadavia 288 to put our luggage away. It was 10$US per night with breakfast... which included fresh croissants (medialunas), yummy ! The rooms were very clean and the beds of good quality. Best Hostel I have been to so far.

Walk along the old streets of Colonia, climb into the lighthouse (2$US) for a better view over the ocean and the city. For a fun way to discover each hidden place, rent a golf car (50$US/day) and drive to the Playa Urbana las Verdes after a cool ride on the Rambla de las Americas.

After our escape in the sunny Colonia, we are heading to Montevideo by bus. You can count 3 hours and 10$US for the bus fare.

To be honest, Montevideo was fun to visit for a day but it doesn't quite have what I am looking for when I travel. Meeting up with friends there and enjoying the nightlife was the highlight of our stop. To do:
#1 Walk through the city center on Avenida 18 de Julio #2 You are now in the Old Town, buy little souvenirs and a warm hotdog #3 Admire the fishermen on the Escollera Sanandi (300m)
#4 Head back into the city taking the Bulvear Genaral Artigas #5 Stop in a traditional restaurant and eat a Chipito #6 Have a moment for yourself or to share on the Playa de los Pocitos #7 Don't think that you will enjoy the hot water, cause it isn't. Getting a sun tan on the other hand will be easy.
#8 Be a tourist, walk from the beach to the big white MONTEVIDEO letters

Meeting with Lucille in Montevideo where she is currently doing her exchange
The nightlife in Montevideo is not as exciting as the one in the exciting Buenos Aires but you can definitly please yourself with all the open air clubs around Pocitos for example. If you wanna do a surf trip, it is way more up North that you should go.
Our 4 days trip was so great thanks to everybody's daily joy, we made the best out of it ! From Buenos Aires it is a must because it is so close by and also because it is a cheap weekend that you can easily plan. No need to plan it days or weeks before, it can be very spontaneous, that's what I like about it !
Ana, Ricardo, Brandon, see you soon for others crazy adventures
