10 of the best activities in Buenos Aires

Top Activities in my Buenos Aires

#1 Fuerza Bruta, Centro cultural de Recoleta (300 Pesos for students, 350 Pesos for adults (16$US))

The experience you must absolutly live while you are in Buenos Aires. From a 2 days stay to a 2 years stay you HAVE TO see this !

From Thursday to Sunday every week this spectacle is simply spectacular. Don't try to look for videos or information, just go. Trust me. Everybody was talking about it and the only words I had were "it won't be like anything you expect", "it is splendid but completely crazy", "what the fuck", and so much more reactions. Guys and girls, everyone ended up saying that I must go without asking questions. And I did. Best show I have seen so far. What I can tell you though is that it is a mix between theatre, circus (without animals of course), dance, live music concert and even singing performance. A bit of everything for all tastes ! Wow.

#2 Bomba del Tiempo, Sarmiento 3131, Ciudad Cultural Konex (140$ Pesos (8$US))

Improvisation and drums. Every Monday live and danse to the sounds of percussions. Very festive atmosphere particularly enjoyable with summer temperatures (until April) because the band plays outside. Come a bit earlier to drink a beer and eat fresh empanadas before the start of the show. A lot of people sell food and drinks in front of the Center. Meet up with a group of friends to go there, it is super fun to form a big cercle in the middle of the danse floor and to danse in the unstoppable crowd.

#3 Open air Movie (Free or between 60-90 Pesos (5$US))

Follow the events in Buenos Aires, but while the weather is still nice, you have open air sessions pretty much everyday during the weekend. Parks are usually the elected spots and the programation is very diversed. From classics to independant, Argentine to French, Japaneese to Canadian, small to big productions, you will find one to enjoy.

#4 Lollapalooza (1000 Pesos (60$US))

This Music Festival is one of the biggest in South America. The programation usually fits the tast of the general public, this year Metallica, The XX, The Strokes, The Weekend, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix and many others could be seen on stage.

It was my first Festival ever and I had so much fun. You have a food court where you can buy hotdogs, burgers and all kinds of food but the service was super slow... And the management really bad. So with a bit of technique I managed to have 4 free hotdogs, 2 extra fries and 2 bottles of water !

#5 Tango show in La Boca (Free)

La Boca, one of the few places where Tango was born is a colorful district. Very poor but very much alive, the central street became touristic thanks to its numerous bars where you can sit down to have a drink and grab something to eat while enjoying a Tango show. You have to follow El Caminito to discover the grafitis and the little multicolour houses. Some may say that La Boca is overated, too expensive and that it's just a tourist trap. No need to buy if you don't want to but do step in the inner courtyards; hidden places where pequeñas tiendas reveal their treasures and mysteries.

#6 Milonga (150 Pesos (8-10$US))

At nighfall some bars and clubs become more active than others... you will dance all night long from Tango to Rock'n roll, Salsa or even HipHop some days. - Milonga Batifondo, classes from 7pm to 9pm FREE - La Milonga de Vinilo, classes from 9m to midnight FREE - Practica de Tango Libre en el ex Olimpo, classes from 7:30 to 9:30pm FREE And many more

#7 Jazz at Thelonious (150-250 Pesos (8-16$US)), Jeronimo Salguero 1884

This Jazz club is one of the very famous in Buenos Aires. Its reputation is very well diserved and the quality of the concert is on point. I went with friends for Woody Allen and Jazz at the 21h30 show. Yes, the entry is quite expensive but trust me, it is 100 times worth it. Rather than going out on Friday, connect with the sound of Jazz and let yourself go for once. The prices of drinks and food are really reasonable (4$US for a gin tonic, 12$US for a bottle of wine, 6$US for a salad or pizza).

#8 Teatro Colon (Free or prices vary depending on the program)

You have to visit this magical place! I have been to many Theatres and Operas but this one definitly makes it to the top 5. The guided tour is 20$US... If you only have a few days it might be worth it. Otherwise, find the programation and go to one of the free concert they offer; usually twice a month. For the free concerts, just stay posted ! Usually you have to get the tickets the Friday from 10am - 8pm (first arrived, first served), we were there at 8:45 am and the show is on Sunday morning, usually at 11am.

#9 Football game at La Boca or River Plate (50$US-200$US)

Even though tickets are either impossible to get because only locals have the anual subscription, either very expensive; it is an amazing experience. I know absolutly nothing about football, it was overwhelming to attend one. Careful to where you sit, what to wear and what you say, supporters do not laugh with the rules and traditions. It's just insaaaaaane, the entire Bombonera was shaking.

#10 Visit an Estancia (10-30$US), Puesto Viejo Estancia

Just a few minutes outside of Buenos Aires, you will find dozens of Estancias. You can call it a ranch but it is so much more than this just because it is Argentine! Dive into Argentine traditions for the day, ride horses and eat a delicious Asado (BBQ). You can either do it with a tour, with friends (you can easily rent a car if you are 21+) but the best is to do it with Argentine people. I made really good friends at Uni who took me here and there and really showed me their culture. It was amazing!
